Appears that winter has just disappeared and Spring is here.
But it is cold, really cold. Sometimes I feel like it is colder than winter. Maybe because the sun is shining bright and there is a perception that it is warm outside and that is the way we dress.
A few weeks ago I was doing some purging, as my life now, is so different than my life back in California. Nine months ago, I owned a very rarely pair of Uggs, two sweatshirts, two beanies and a ski jacket that really did not fit. My closet now consist of four winter jackets, ten beanies (probably more actually), a pair of rain boots, Uggs and Sorels. Along with gloves and scarves. And we cannot forget the puffy vest that I have always wanted, but had no need for. And cabin socks....the most amazing cozy socks you will ever wear.
Skylar finished ski team and has started softball full force. Aidan baseball. I look at my empty calendar from months past and long for those days. Every day we seem to have some sort of activity. If I ever regretted moving here, it is gone when Aidan takes off on his bike, heading to practice. Or I leave 5 minutes before he is done to grab him. Small town living at its finest.
We had a birthday and an anniversary, a night at Monster Trucks, a few books read and our first big accomplishment towards being debt free.
Summer is just around the corner. The nights are getting warmer, the fire pit has been on once, we are working on our back yard and looking forward to my parents arrival in two weeks, followed by my best friend. We actually made it out for a very chilly bike ride, that was so invigorating, I am just waiting to get back on.
The snow is off the trails and I have been able to get two amazing hikes in this month, with many more on the books. I have started rock climbing at the local gym and am going to work that and yoga back into my schedule. Pushing outside my limits and seeing what my body is capable of.
I am excited for being outside more, really exploring our state and camping. This summer I plan on doing an overnight hiking trip with a few woman I have met and really would like to do a solo trip as well.
February..... Chapter Two of 2017
And just like that we lived another 28 days......
Thinking back over February, I am in awe of all that has transpired in such a short month.
We started it off with a bang, Brian ended up with the flu, which we are now referring to as the Zombie Apocalypse, the day before his birthday. He put on a happy face and suffered through all the plans we had and I think crashed in a sugar / drugged coma that night. We were so lucky that his mom was able to make it up to celebrate with us and spend a very long extended (thank you weather) weekend with us. We did not do much, hard to go out with a zombie in a snow storm, but it was nice to sit in front of the fire and just be.
Brian was nice enough to send his zombies my way and I ended up sick and dying for a few days, but even that did not stop me from a quick, very stealth trip down to San Diego. My best friend came down to my parents for the weekend to celebrate her birthday and it was just like the sleepovers we had growing up at my parents house. Except for we were both sick, we were in bed by eight every night and just too tired to even do anything.
I was also able to enjoy lots of warm weather, wear my flip flops and eat carne asada every day! My entire family came over one afternoon and it was so nice to see how everyone's lives are changing and all the hugs! Made a quick trip to see all my work friends and catch a yoga class and was headed back home, where I was missing the cold, brisk weather, my family and our new lives. I left with such a full heart, leaving my parents and Chris have definitely been the hardest part of this move.
February brought us lots of skiing, one god awful snowshoeing adventure, that ended up being uphill the entire time and a few very sore muscles. We headed to Winterfest, I ended up with the flu again then thought I would share it with Skylar.
Softball and Baseball are both getting ready to start and ski season ends this weekend.
I have crocheted more beanies than I know what to do with (anyone want one?), baked a ton of pies, wrote a piece that will be published next month and have just enjoyed the quietness of winter.
All our snow in town is melted, our highs are in the 30s and signs of spring can be detected. I am sad to see Winter leaving, but am so excited to see what Spring is like in Oregon. Every weekend we seem to have something on our list to see or do. Lots of skiing still ahead of us... HELLO SPRING SKIING! Skylar and I have a trip on the books, we have monster trucks coming, half marathon in the talks and my parents are heading up soon.
We have a pretty open summer, no visitors.... anyone interested?
